Roger Hampton's deep, rich voice is a pleasure to listen to as he spins this clever and lovely tale. Handsome Darius Lindsey, the youngest and poorest son of an earl, is offered a bargain he can’t afford to refuse—the opportunity to bed and father a child with beautiful Vivian Longstreet. This bargain is engineered by the lady's elderly husband, who is ill. Hampton's portrayal of Darius is mesmerizing. He effortlessly imprints the character with a sexy and slightly mocking voice, a strong sense of honor, humor, and reluctantly developing feelings of love. Hampton's depictions of the villainess, the slimy stepfather, the elderly, wise husband, and the sweet children are also outstanding. A.C.P. © AudioFile 2015, Portland, Maine
